Flight Sim Setup Guide: Yokes, HOTAS, Pedals and Cockpits in Canada (2026)

Flight sim setup guide for Canada: yokes, HOTAS, rudder pedals and cockpits

Building a flight sim setup is easier when you start from the aircraft you want to fly and the platform you fly on, then add controls in stages. This guide covers which controls suit which aircraft, what works on PC, Mac, Xbox and PlayStation, when force feedback is worth it, and how to mount everything, from a desk to a full cockpit. Every spec comes from the manufacturer, and every price is in CAD at Canada Toyz on 25 October 2026.

Quick answer

1. Match the controls to the aircraft

You mostly fly Main control Good matches at Canada Toyz
General aviation (Cessna, Piper) Yoke + throttle, prop and mixture Honeycomb Alpha or Alpha Lite, Sierra TPM Module, Bravo
Boeing airliners Yoke + throttle quadrant Thrustmaster TCA Yoke Pack Boeing, MOZA AY210 or AY90 with MFY, MOZA MB7F FMC
Airbus airliners Sidestick + thrust levers Thrustmaster TCA Officer Pack or Captain Pack X, MOZA MA3F FCU and MA3F MCDU
Fighter jets (DCS, BMS) HOTAS: stick + throttle Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog, AVA F/A-18, Viper TQS; MOZA AB9 + MH16, MTP Throttle

2. Check your platform

  • Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One: look for Xbox licensing, such as the Thrustmaster T.Flight HOTAS One, T.Flight Full Kit X, TCA Captain Pack X Airbus Edition and the TCA Yoke and Quadrant Boeing Edition.
  • PS5 and PS4: the Thrustmaster T.Flight Hotas 5 MSFS Edition. The T.Flight Rudder Pedals work on PC, PlayStation and Xbox with compatible Thrustmaster flight controls.
  • Mac: Honeycomb lists PC and Mac for the Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Foxtrot and Sierra.
  • PC: everything in this guide, including all MOZA flight gear, which is PC only.

3. Add rudder pedals

Rudder pedals control yaw and, with toe brakes, braking on the ground, so taxiing, crosswind landings and helicopter flight feel far more natural than using a twist grip. Options at Canada Toyz:

Pedals Key points Price (CAD)
Thrustmaster T.Flight Rudder Pedals S.M.A.R.T sliding rails, differential brakes; PC, PlayStation, Xbox $169.99
Honeycomb Charlie All metal, Hall sensors, independent toe brakes; USB to PC or Mac $479.99
MOZA MRP ±30° rudder, 150 mm travel, 20° toe brakes, Hall sensors; optional damper $499.00
Thrustmaster TPR Pendular Rudder All metal, suspended pendular mechanism, 16-bit Hall sensors $869.99

4. Is force feedback worth it?

A force feedback base pushes back through the stick or yoke, so you feel things like taxiing, turbulence and landing loads. MOZA's force feedback flight gear is PC only:

  • MOZA AB6 Bundle ($549): 6 Nm peak combined torque, with the MHG Flightstick and a table clamp.
  • MOZA AB9 base ($699.99): up to 12 Nm peak torque; add a MOZA flight stick.
  • MOZA AY90 yoke base ($549): 4.2 Nm roll torque and up to 90 N pitch force; add an MFY or MFY Pro yoke handle.
  • MOZA AY210 yoke base ($979): 9 Nm sustained roll torque and up to 210 N pitch force over 150 mm travel.

5. Add panels and displays

Physical panels let you fly by feel instead of reaching for a mouse. For airliners, MOZA makes the MA3F FCU ($219) with left and right EFIS modules, the MA3F and MB7F flight computer displays ($279 each) and the MGX1000 G1000-style panel ($629). For fighters, see the MOZA FMP18 Panel Bundle ($1,179), the Thrustmaster Viper Panel ($349.99) and the MFD Cougar Pack ($139.99). Browse all in our flight simulator panels collection.

6. Desk, stand or cockpit?

Build your flight sim in stages.
  1. Stage 1: a stick and throttle, or a yoke, on your desk.
  2. Stage 2: rudder pedals.
  3. Stage 3: a throttle quadrant or panel for the aircraft you fly most.
  4. Stage 4: force feedback or extra displays.
  5. Stage 5: a stand or full cockpit to hold it all.

FAQ

Which flight controls work with Microsoft Flight Simulator on Xbox?

At Canada Toyz, the Xbox-licensed options are the Thrustmaster T.Flight HOTAS One (including the MSFS Edition), the T.Flight Full Kit X, the TCA Captain Pack X Airbus Edition, the TCA Sidestick X and the TCA Yoke and Quadrant Boeing Edition.

Yoke or joystick?

A yoke suits airliners and general aviation aircraft, which use one in real life. A joystick or HOTAS suits fighters and many helicopters. Airbus airliners use a sidestick.

Do MOZA flight controls work on Xbox or Mac?

No. MOZA flight gear is for PC. For Mac, Honeycomb lists PC and Mac support.

Do I need rudder pedals?

Not to start, since many sticks have a twist rudder. Pedals make taxiing, landing and helicopter flying much easier, and they add toe brakes.

Do I pay duty or customs?

No. Canada Toyz ships from Markham, Ontario, in CAD, with no customs paperwork, duty or brokerage fee at delivery. Orders over $300 CAD ship free.
